My name is Mrs. Burkovskiy (but most people call me Mrs. B) and I am the General Music Teacher (grades K-4) and Choral Director at Hillside School. I have taught music for 19 years, and this is my seventh year teaching at Hillside School. Teaching vocal music is my passion! Outside of teaching, I am a singer with a  performance background primarily in musical theatre, but I enjoy singing all styles of music. I have a Bachelors in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Masters Degree from VanderCook College of Music. When I am not singing or teaching music, I enjoy traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with my family and with my dog, Jack.

General Music Class

Students in grades K-4 have music twice a week. Students learn about the elements of music through active participation - singing, playing percussion instruments, and through movement. Students in 3rd and 4th grade also play the recorder. Students learn to read music notation beginning in first grade.

Music Classroom Expectations

1. Listen and follow directions.

2. Show respect for everyone and for all classroom materials and instruments.

3. Raise your hand to speak or to leave your seat.

4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

OUR WINTER MUSIC PROGRAM, FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES K-4, IS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10th AT 6:30PM! (STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS!)

Chorus/Choir

Bluejay Chorus is for all students in grades 3-5 who love to sing, or are interested in learning to sing. Bluejay Chorus rehearses after school twice a week.

Concert Choir is for all students in grades 6-8 who love to sing, or are interested in learning to sing. Concert Choir rehearses before school twice a week. In addition, students will have weekly sectionals during the school day. All choral students will perform in both a winter concert and a spring concert.
