1 to 1 Device Program - Student Device Take-Home Agreement & Expectations

1:1 DEVICE FAQ

This Agreement outlines the requirements for home use of a Student Wireless Device.  It is essential that this Agreement be followed to ensure the safe, efficient, and ethical operation of the Wireless Device and compliance with District Usage Policies. In order for students to use the Wireless Device at home over the school year, you must be willing to accept the following terms and responsibilities:

Parents will:

  • supervise child’s use of the Wireless Device at home especially when on the Internet

  • discuss appropriate use of the Internet at home

  • assume responsibility for any family member’s use of the Wireless Device

  • restrict use of my child’s Wireless Device for school use only, NOT for personal use (online shopping, movie watching, etc.) 

Parents and students will:

  • secure the Wireless Device and know where it is at all times

  • choose a safe location to charge the Wireless Device at home

  • keep wireless device away from extreme temperatures, food, drinks, and pets 

  • NOT change or attempt to change the configuration of software or hardware, nor will they remove any programs, media, documents, or web history

  • NOT download or attempt to install any inappropriate programs, Apps, or files

  • NOT attempt to repair the Wireless Device and we will not request repairs from anyone outside of District 93

  • NOT sync the device to any other device that is not a District 93 device

  • report any problems or damage immediately to the school

  • Within 24 hoursreport loss/theft of the device to the school and proper authorities; reports must be accompanied by a police report

Students will:

  • bring the charged Wireless Device to school every school day, keep it in the District issued hard case, and use only the charger provided

  • make the Wireless Device available for random inspection by a District 93 staff member upon request

  • log in using his/her name and account that District 93 has provided 

  • abide by the school district's acceptable use policy.

  • limit use to school based purpose and NOT use the Wireless Device for any inappropriate or illegal purpose and abide by copyright laws

  • use appropriate language in all communications generated via the device 

  • only use the hardware, configurations, and installations provided by District 93

  • keep labels on the Wireless Device/Messenger Bag


 

There is no Wireless Device Protection Plan for the Student Device Take-Home Program. In the event the Wireless Device is damaged or lost, caused through use that is dishonest, fraudulent, intentional, criminal or negligent (not locking/storing the device in a secure manner or location, Hillside School District 93 reserves the right to charge me up to the full cost of the Chromebook and accessories. The building administration in consultation with teachers, and Director of Technology makes the final determination as to the cause of the damage and the type of damage found on the issued Chromebook. 

However, costs will be waived if the device is covered in total by a manufacturer’s warranty, including, but not limited to: (1) Theft (the claim must be accompanied by a police report); (2) Electrical Surge; (3) Fire (the claim must be accompanied by a police report); (4) Natural Disaster. In no event shall any student ever be denied access to Free and Appropriate Public Education as a result of any violation of this Agreement or otherwise.  

 

We, the undersigned, have read, understand, and agree to follow all responsibilities as outlined in this Agreement and agree to be bound thereby.   The undersigned agree and represent that the Wireless Device will be delivered in good working order and that it shall be returned in good working order.  FURTHER, BY EXECUTING THIS AGREEMENT, THE UNDERSIGNED WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS EACH SIGNATORY (AND THEIR HEIRS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS) MAY HAVE AGAINST THE BOARD, ITS INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS RELATING TO, CONNECTED WITH, OR ARISING FROM THE USE OF THE WIRELESS DEVICE OR THIS AGREEMENT.   FURTHER, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE UNDERSIGNED EACH AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, DEFEND, AND HOLD HARMLESS THE BOARD, ITS INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS, FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DAMAGES, LOSSES, CAUSES OF ACTION, AND THE LIKE ARISING FROM, RELATED TO, OR CONNECTED WITH THE USE OF THE WIRELESS DEVICE OR THIS AGREEMENT.
