Director of Curriculum and Assessment

Greetings Hillside Community!

Hillside School District #93 provides a rich and rigorous curriculum and assessment program for our students that reflects our commitment to making sure that we are aligned to the standards, connected to and understanding of the community of learners that we serve, and finally, a curriculum that provides the space for an individualized approach that addresses the academic and socio-emotional needs of students. Our goal is to make sure that students are able to be successful both in and outside of the classroom, and also as they continue to grow as life-long learners.

Offering a coordinated sequence of study in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Physical Education and health, we strive to make sure that the specific content and skills needed to be successful, are clearly identified in our curriculum. Our curriculum is a living document that allows us to adapt as necessary to meet the further needs of our students; teachers are encouraged to create lessons and activities within the scope of the curriculum that allow for rigorous application and practice of the skill sets that are embedded within.

Additionally, the effectiveness of both our academic and socio-emotional learning curriculum is assessed based on the teacher's ability to deliver content that supports the whole child along with our student's ability to perform on local and state assessments and/or screeners. Currently we use district-wide common formative student assessment, state and federally mandated assessments, local large scale District purchased assessments and screeners, as well as classroom data and trend data, to monitor the effectiveness of our curriculum and scope and sequence.

We are confident that our curriculum and assessment program contributes to the development of well rounded, mindful students who will grow to be positive contributors to society and able to compete globally in the 21st century.
